The development of medicine, medical technology, and the life sciences provides countless benefits for our society. At the same time, it is important that such research be understood and trusted by the general population and that the ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) of research be made understandable and clear.
Research in bioethics has sometimes been thought to hamper innovation in the sciences. However, our laboratory looks carefully at the issues and problems that accompany developments in medicine and the life sciences and attempts to find practical strategies and solutions to deal with and overcome these obstacles. Our goal, through working with doctors, scientists, patients, citizens, and a wide range of experts (including those from the humanities and social sciences), is to both support and advance the progress of medicine, medical technology, and the life sciences.
